Further South than any Alwaysgreen Dobber has ever traveled there was a great sea, dotted with islands. This archipelago was home to the Mohkgaarb. They lived in harmony with the land and sea forming a unique peaceful symbiosis. These reptilian creatures aren’t terribly industrious, or civilized. Most would say they are very simple, yet in this simplicity, they are connected. Each using their strength to the advantage of the whole colony.
Along the edges of their beaches, grew great flowering plants. Huge things whose roots grew up from under the water, but towered high into the air where their colorful blooms shown like a beacon in the sun.
Small buds grew from the portion of their trunk that was underwater attacking fish of all kinds. The mohkgaarb ate these fish. The bright flowers at the top of each stalk would attract birds and other creatures. The plant would eat these birds, but often the prey was too fast, so the mohkgaarb would hunt any birds that escaped. Thus the plant was well fed and so were the mohkgaarb. Both thrived.
The mohkgaard began to worship the plant. They called it the Great Umzollie. The Umzollie was seen as the protector and provider. For generations the traditions rooted deeper and deeper into their culture. Then the drought came.
Water receded from the beaches. The roots of the Umzollie that were now hundreds of years old began to dry out. They were too large and deep to be moved. The Umzollie died and the Mohkgaarb were scattered.
Today the few mohkgaarb that are left travel in small caravans. Always near water, hoping beyond hope that they will one day find a new home and a new Umzollie.
